Making Frayuuuns

So for those of you losers who actually read this blog every once in a while, you'll remember a recent post I did about Jared Buschang's photography.... and if you don't remember but you're reading this now, just click here and read it. i'll wait. ok so FUNNY STORY about that first guy with the dyed hair who's twitter I mentioned, later that day my best bitch and I went to this Nike basketball game down in the L.E.S and on our way home we decided to not get on the subway right away and walk to the next station stop... so we're walking and shit, then all of a sudden we fucking saw him in the street and I was like "omggg your name's greasychicken... or uh chicken_grease!" (aka his instagram and twitter respectively) and thanks to the power of social networks and stuff I sorta kinda felt so connected to him already and like a loser started like verbally expressing the fact that I fucked with his work and was even able to refer to a photo he'd recently posted on Instagram of an Adidas shoot he did. But to be even weirder I used my friend's phone to go to my blog and show him the post... but only because I just thought it was so coincidental that the same day I posted something not necessarily about him, but giving him that little twitter shout out, we ended up seeing the guy. He was with his friend Alex who was also cool, pretty rare that you come across a guy who can pull off a bucket hat with a drawstring. I knew Tyler was a model, and when I asked Alex what he did he nonchalantly responded "everything", that later on translated into him being an artist who also does the whole fashion and music thing. We talked with them for a while and they gave us directions to the nearest subway and different ways to get home at least ten times because I have a shitty memory and Conasia lives in Mount Vernon (not that there's anything wrong with that lol.. ) but yeah they were super chill and we fuck with them. Once again, thanks to the power of social networks, I can share their shit with you.

All their shit's dope like honestly... sidenote, I have a little theory that comes from me being a figure skater. If you think about it, when you see someone- like just on the street or whatever, you can never really know what it is that they do ... but in the right environment or with the right tools... it's amazing to see what they excel at. For example I figure skate and when I get off the ice I'm just a normal person that happens to have that talent along with other random normal people. Walking around with my stuff after practice is always interesting to me because it's like unless you've seen me perform, chances are you wouldn't think that I figure skate actually you probably wouldn't care. Unless I'm in my element which is being on the ice, there's no way you'd know that that's what I do... the same thing goes for if you hand me a camera. That sorta applies with Alex and Tyler, if you walked by them chances are you wouldn't double take, just regular guys minding their business, but give them the tools to do what it is that they do, and-- well as you can see they'll fuck shit up.

The Man Behind the Jumpman

The other day I was in Barnes and Noble reading magazines, I used to  just skim through them to look at the pictures, or just the stuff I thought was cool, but that was because I used to read really shitty magazines. Anyway now I actually read articles. So while reading this month's Dazed and Confused, I met Tinker Hatfield... I think he sorta looks like a pro golfer or something, and unless you're a sneaker head/big basketball fan chances are you don't know who he is. I'll tell you now. Mr. Hatfield designs Jordans, he's currently the Vice President of Design and Special Projects at Nike. Unfortunately not all of us are... and may never be lucky enough to work so closely with (debatebly) the greatest basketball player of all time. But this cool kid gets to... I used this photo of him cause I think it's sorta funny, like you'd never think oh this guy's basically the reason your 12 year old brother drags you to sneaker stores on Saturdays... against your will... or makes you get off the computer to plot when the next pair will come out so he can strategically plan when/what tactic he'll use to corner your mom. Anyway like I was saying they interviewed Mr. Hatfield this month on his takes on creativity and designing and stuff.

He's designed 16 of the 23 Air Jordan basketball sneakers, he's been working at Nike since 1981 but started off as the corporate architect... and designed office spaces, show rooms and stores. I looked all over the internet in attempts to find the interview he did with Dazed and Confused that I read from this month's issue, but I couldn't find an online version, which sucks cause he said some really motivating shit. But something cool I learned from reading his interview was that he actually doesn't create or design during office hours, but finds inspiration for sneakers on his free time and in various aspects of life, he believes that the best way to produce good work is when you're not on the clock. Now this doesn't mean that he just chills at work and does nothing, but I guess he handles the more business-y side when in the office. I also think it's cool that at Nike they call their workplace the "Innovation Kitchen". I take pictures but he really makes me wish I could draw also, with all the hype that these sneakers get with every release, you don't think about the fact that someone actually designed, sketched and worked on them before they even entered the stores.

"You have to spend time getting to know an athlete, his motivations, and his life. Understand his needs and his wants. The real fun comes in the end when you make observations that have real meaning. That's the mystical side of designing products. "

THE FNO PROMO VIDEOOOO

Not gonna lie, it's always fun to watch celebrities lip sync and dance around, my sister goes "ew of course Justin Bieber's gonna try and look sexy when everyone else is having fun" See how many people you can name!

Check out the list of all the stuff that's going on this year

The other day my little brother and I were on chatroulette and met these two girls, they started blowing my brother kisses and it was so funny... he got so excited and responded by blowing them kisses back. So of course since I was awkwardly sitting next to him, I decided to take screenshots. haha so adorable.

South Central Style

I watched "South Central" with my brother the other day... couldn't help but to notice some of the clothing that the characters were wearing in 1992 that I'd easily see myself wearing today. The film's basically about a gang member named Bobby who goes to jail for 10 years after killing a drug dealer (guy in top left corner). When he gets out he tries to save his son from going down the same path. First of all that color block blazer in the upper left is epic, burgundy, navy blue, grey and a mustard yellow... and to top it off the guy's hands were adorned with gold rings and a gold watch... The guy under him helps the main character, Bobby, change his life in jail and channels this afro-centric look cause he's too deep for what the other inmates wear. He dons these dashiki-esque shirts and kufis in the movie. The two boys on the right were the friends of Bobby's son Jimmie. I really like the kid in the upper right hand corners acid wash overalls and the print on the shirt that his friend below is wearing also. The movie's pretty dece though, and it ends well cause Jimmie doesn't end up becoming a gangster despite all the pressure around him.

Marina + The Diamonds

I'm sorta late with this song considering the fact that it came out over two years ago... but my sister put me on to this artist and she's so cute. All her videos are pretty artistic and more than just her dancing and being pretty in front of the camera. These are my favorite videos of hers. Her songs are like a doper funky version of pop... "Oh No!" is one of her older songs and "Prima Donna" is some of her recent shit, idk why you haven't pressed played yet.

Jared Buschang Photography

the guy in the first photos name is tyler white btw, he's a model (http://twitter.com/chicken_grease) anyway, jared's so good with lighting, and his digital work is wonderful, he has a good black & white to color ratio in his photographs, as well as people to objejcts... http://jaredbuschang.tumblr.com/
fuck with him

i-D "Youthful" Issue

i fucking love these . all of them. my faves are definitely the Twigs and Ben Drew covers tho (first and second) and i also loveeeee the Kel Markey and Herieth Paul cover (second row, second photo) one because the color contrast in the overall photo, like between the two models and that powder on their skin and clothes is beautiful, anddddd because Herieth's been my favorite model since I saw her adorable Calvin Klein "CK One" VIDEO. but um, I've always been a Nylon kinda girl and it's sorta similar to i-D which sorta explains why I like this magazine so much also... I've read bits and pieces of the issue online but I still can't get over how dope these covers are. I love that there are so many different covers and the variety of objects they used to represent youth; the plush animal, baseball cap... and in a way the pizza and that colorful powder. fashion photography trumps everything, duh.

Boy.

 random polyvore outfit i made...

i'm a window shopper

so i went downtown for some shit lol and on my way back up, post my chipotle lunch I got distracted of course, look at these pretty shoes i saw.

these are dope, deena and ozzy shoes from urban outfitters are basically the only reason i like wedges now... i really wanted these beautiful white ones a while ago but they sold out before I could get them :( but yeah you can purchase these hereeeee if you want ----> POW

I really liked these too, it looks like they were dipped in liquid metal then left out to dry... peep

Steve Madden, basically just fuck with these cause of the blue bottom and they could work for guys and girls... though they were in the women's section of the shoe department.

BBC Radio 1's "Live Lounge"

I don't know what it is about watching these artists sing songs that are so different from their genres, but I sorta like their versions so much more. Anyway the "Live Lounge" is basically a part of BBC Radio 1, a little thing they do where artists are invited to come into their physical studio and perform one song of their own and sometimes one by another artist in "an acoustic format". So Ben Howard is a folk musician... singing a pop song that went viral, Florence Welch is an indie musician singing a Rap/R&B song and Rita Ora is an R&B artist singing this teen pop love song. idk it's just so great... anyway I listed them in the order of the ones I liked the most. music is such a beautiful thing yo.

SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOD. (3:45-3:48, adorbss)

I GOT CHILLS WATCHING THIS SERIOUSLY.

she's cute

aujourd'hui

my little sis took that sunset one... and that's nooooo edit.

Rico and Mitch

I watched Paid in Full for the first time today with my sister, like the entire thing on Youtube lol. Couple of things I noticed that I really appreciated. One was the way the main characters spoke, especially Rico. Rico's played by Cam'ron (the cool friend who ends up getting caught up in getting money, killed his friend... and goes to jail at the end when he gets busted with cocaine after he's set up). This might sound weird but the tone of his voice was perfect, like the tone and everything... like if I was a guy I'd love to sound like him. But I thought this scene was sorta funny, don't judge my sense of humor please and thanks.

This is my favorite scene, I totally relate to him. Can't the knock the hustle.

SBs (in the trap)

i think that these are my second favorite type of sneaker (next to Converse) I'll tell you why.
  1. they aren't too chunky... so not heavy
  2. they're mad comfortable
  3. there are sooo many different color combinations and textures
  4. they come in high top, mid top andddd low top
  5. the SB stands for skateboard and that's BS backwards, which stands for bullshit. double win.
  6. it's the type of sneaker that can get a little fucked up but won't look super bummy and gross, they'll look bummy and dope ; )
  7. they look good with everything!

whitney port dresses better than you

Last week I was doing shit on the internet as usual and looking through this FASHION BLOG on tumblr when I came across this cute picture of Whitney Port, best known for her reality tv fame courtesy of The Hills. I've seen a few episodes here and there when they play reruns on MTV but I was never really that big a fan of reality TV..... actually that's a lie I keep up with the Kardashians. Anyway, I always thought the most important cast members were Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad, just cause I'd always seen her in tabloids and whatever. So Whitney was wearing this beanie, sunglasses a cargo jacket, she looked chill and whatever, and out of curiosity I searched her name under the tags on Tumblr. That's where my mini obsession started, I literally scrolled down for a good five minutes of just random photos and screenshots from The Hills. In one of the photos I saw the headline was "The City", my sister and I recently finished five seasons of Gossip Girl and now we're watching "Hollywood Heights", this corny but super addicting show that comes on Nick at Nite. So I watched the first episode of The City.... and watched the next fifteen episodes the same day.  It's the basic formula, boys, friends, drama, partying, that's why it was so great. Unfortunately the show got cancelled in the middle of it's second season, but all good things must come to an end. :(

ok so this collage took me like 69239824 hours to make... but these were some of my favorite outfits of hers, and this is just her street style... not even what she wears to events! if you click on the photo it gets bigger and better.... so you should stop reading and click on it, lol why are you still reading. fine. Besides her style, on the show she starts off as an employee at Diane Von Furstenberg, then moves on to work with People's Revolution. What's cool is that she actually starts her on line (this was back in 2009 (lol that rhymes)) and now it's pretty legit, she's done shows and has spring and fall collections out. The brand's called WHITNEY EVE, and it's sort of like a mixture of Opening Ceremony and ASOS, with a dash of pretty. So yeah, she's a cool kid fuck with HER (if you click "her" it takes you to her blog in case you're in a stalker mood)  But yeah , probably my favorite reality star turned celeb story.

I LOVE THIS SONG

white boys are awesome

priiiinted denimmm

I guess the thing with printed denim, at least for me, is that like- it could easily look super tacky if the quality of denim is shitty or like the print is ugly idk. Also when I think of printed denim I always think of animal print, and to me animal print can always either look really good or bad, and a lot of times it's the latter. But anyway I've seen like really nice shit lately and it's one of these fall trends so that's cool. The jeans I've been seeing are super elaborate, design wise, more than just your regular floral jeans or cheetah print, I've seen some tribal stuff, and the other day I ran into my friend Sydney who had these really ill rainbow ones from Nastygal. Well, this post was inspired by a cute Urban Outfitters shoot I saw...

these are my favorite five from ASOS...

and these are my favorites from Nasty Gal...

Well I'm generally a safe Sally so with prints I'm always like, it's always best to pair them with solid colors, usually white, black or gray. With black and white printed denim I think it's especially best to do the solid color thing and then wear like bright shoes or something. But I'm beginning to fuck with the whole mixture of prints thing, better safe than tacky tho. lolololol.

OK so yaaaahhhh fuck up the fun with these shits come fall, omg the best season yo. Seriously idk why I love fall so much, like seeing photos of red and orange trees and people in sweaters and cardigans and boots makes me so happy. Plus since it's August... summer is officially more than halfway over, which is sorta whack but I actually miss school so whatever. ok bye.
