make cool stuff for fun

Let's play "Guess who this random guy is"

A) photographer
B) scientist
C) architect
D) musician

the correct answer is C... so i started taking art history at school this year and i've been enjoying it a lot, last week we watched part of this documentary about Frank Gehry, a guy who's taken it upon himself to revolutionize the way people look at and understand buildings. i just thought he was really cool and wanted to post some of his work here. there were scenes in the documentary where he'd be thinking of how he wanted his buildings to look and deciding how everything should work based off the mini models he uses... he'd say things like "no this doesn't look right" or "let's do it this way" and you could tell he just had a really set vision for what he wanted the end result to be. as an artist should, anyway i was telling my mom about his work and we watched one or two of his interview videos so that's the short youtube clip i posted up there ^^ where he's basically talking about art and inspiration and stuff. it's pretty  amazing how you can pass by people like this everyday and have no idea what they do or what their talents are but then be like holy shitt this guy made that?!! respect the genius.
(p.s. another guy who does cool shit who doesn't necessarily look like he does cool shit)

MIA: Money Intellect Art

so you know how when you go into an urban outfitters the people who lay out the store have this way of just bombarding you with cool shit? (if you don't know what I'm talking about then take a trip to your local urban outfitters please) you'll just walk in thinking yeah lemme get this shirt or this new hat or something, then you end up being there for so much longer than you'd expected just looking at all this stuff? i mean this happens to me pretty much all the time cause i'm like a fucking squirrel and get distracted easily, but i'm pretty sure it also happens to normal people . not only are there all these cool clothes to look at, but all these accessories as well: nail polish, headphones, jewelry, furniture. . . and then they have these books. but not just normal books-- really cool ones, like the ones you see when you walk by, but can't help but to turn back and skim through. so last week i went into the urban on 72nd and i walked by this book with a bright ass cover that said MIA. i opened it and ended up looking through the entire thing. it's basically this really cool compilation of album artwork from her three albums, "Arular", "Kala" and "Maya". i was really impressed, her work has a reoccurring theme of patterns, bright colors, random shapes and sketches, but there's also lots of film photography and some song lyrics. i know MIA's an artist in the musical sense but i didn't know she fucked with Photoshop and printmaking too. one of the reasons i really like her is because you can see so clearly how her creativity shines through in her work . yeah she probably has a stylist and a manager or publicist that make her look good, but she still retains her own self image . this book is just very raw and makes her more than just another new age rapper but really portrays her as a super creative individual, which i personally think musicians tend to have trouble with these days. and watch the video belowwwww, it's awesome.

what to do when u get bored with being on covers of vogue

i have this list of celebrities that can basically do no wrong in my eyes, kate moss is one of them. she's a pretty recent member to that group of people, but she's rising up the rankings pretty quickly. when i was at barnes and noble last saturday (for literally 12 hours might I add), I peeped one of her new books and it just made me want to go find and photograph her. unfortunately i know this isn't going to happen, at least not any time soon. so the book is basically a compilation of lots and lots of photos from some of her work, it was published with 8 different covers (as seen below) in early November. anyway, I skimmed through it and flipped to random pages and sections, but I'm definitely going to go back and really check it out cause reading and looking at stuff like this is just inspiring to me, anyway here are some of my favorite photozz .

you can get me the book for christmas if you want

☹ ☹ ☹ ☹

uhh so i haven't been blogging as much cause i'm doing that whole senior year thing, when i decided i wanted to put some posts up i realized that a lot of the drafts i had saved had become sort of outdated... i.e. for music that's dropped and events that have happened, but now that i decide to post it's become old news so i deleted a bunch of stuff i had saved, which sucks. just wanted to share. "/ but it's ok more room for other things.

In my opinion Kid Cudi has developed the perfect formula for making music that makes you feel good, that's been the case since his first album, Man on the Moon. I guess my obsession with his music all started with Day N Nite, then Pursuit of Happiness, and following those Enter GalacticSoundrack 2 My Life and Up, Up & Away (that's just from that first album)... from the second there's uhh Ashin' KusherScott Mescudi vs. The WorldMojo So Dope -- oh and Mr. Rager. yeah that's a lot. (didn't really fuck with the third album WZRD too much) anyway, with all of the listed songs I found myself abusing the replay button for a pretty lengthy duration of time. You can literally feel like you're at a different high when you listen to a good Cudi song. When G.O.O.D Music's Cruel Summer came out, his track "Creepers" ended up being my favorite song on the album, and it too got to experience the abuse of the replay button, no surprise there. So when I first peeped the video for "Just What I Am", a song he dropped over the summer, I was glad to induct yet another song into the Replay Button club. P.S. Those are some of his fans he invited to participate in the video shoot that you see partying with him.

my new blawg

i started a photography blog. lol that sounds so weird to me i feel like everyone has one but i needed a place to put work i did besides just facebook so i could share it with other people. if you're reading this and haven't peeped HTTP://FLONGALA.TUMBLR.COM/ peep dat. follow dat. luhh dat. there's not that much on there right now but don't worry you will be visually pleased with time. trust meee.

just some random shit from my tumblr

can we go thrift shopping.

Though I hate to say it, I think because of stereotypes and just like... because hip hop and rap are generally viewed as being genres of music that mostly black people make and produce, whenever someone comes along that is of a different race AND is good, they're always super respected. I'm by no means saying that this is because they identify as a different race but, I'm just saying... and it's not necessarily a bad thing... I mean it's great for the rapper who can show that race definitely doesn't indicate skill or anything (obviously), but it's just interesting to think about. The most well known examples I can think of are Eminem and like Drake ... though he's half black. I can't really think of anyone else-- wait no I just thought of Big Pun, which makes me think of Fat Joe and they were both latino... anyway. I was on Worldstar a while ago and saw this video called Thrift Shop by this guy named Macklemore and Ryan Lewis who I'd never heard of. The thumbnail was him wearing this huge fur coat and I clicked on it cause I was intrigued, also I really love thrift shops but never heard a song about one. I really liked the video, it was interesting and his lyrics were pretty dece too. Just watch the video and try and convince me that the tune in the first couple seconds doesn't get stuck in your head.

yo don't forget to post those

Lametrius (aka Meech) is one of those people who makes you wish you had cooler friends or did more shit with your life. I've only met her once (this concert at the Brooklyn Museum), but before that I was following her on Tumblr and always thought she was a great blend between hipster and hippie. Every time she uploads photos into an album on Facebook I end up leaving her with an overwhelming amount of notifications, but I think she's getting used to it.

I think she should turn some of these into postcards or something, like she does a perfect job of encapsulating the moments and joy that come along with being young. Doing shit with your friends, partying, concerts, etc. Also makes me wonder what life might be like if I maybe wasn't so obsessed with the internet and left my house once in a while. So here's a little artist spotlight, what a cool kid.
