make cool stuff for fun

Let's play "Guess who this random guy is"

A) photographer
B) scientist
C) architect
D) musician

the correct answer is C... so i started taking art history at school this year and i've been enjoying it a lot, last week we watched part of this documentary about Frank Gehry, a guy who's taken it upon himself to revolutionize the way people look at and understand buildings. i just thought he was really cool and wanted to post some of his work here. there were scenes in the documentary where he'd be thinking of how he wanted his buildings to look and deciding how everything should work based off the mini models he uses... he'd say things like "no this doesn't look right" or "let's do it this way" and you could tell he just had a really set vision for what he wanted the end result to be. as an artist should, anyway i was telling my mom about his work and we watched one or two of his interview videos so that's the short youtube clip i posted up there ^^ where he's basically talking about art and inspiration and stuff. it's pretty  amazing how you can pass by people like this everyday and have no idea what they do or what their talents are but then be like holy shitt this guy made that?!! respect the genius.
(p.s. another guy who does cool shit who doesn't necessarily look like he does cool shit)

MIA: Money Intellect Art

so you know how when you go into an urban outfitters the people who lay out the store have this way of just bombarding you with cool shit? (if you don't know what I'm talking about then take a trip to your local urban outfitters please) you'll just walk in thinking yeah lemme get this shirt or this new hat or something, then you end up being there for so much longer than you'd expected just looking at all this stuff? i mean this happens to me pretty much all the time cause i'm like a fucking squirrel and get distracted easily, but i'm pretty sure it also happens to normal people . not only are there all these cool clothes to look at, but all these accessories as well: nail polish, headphones, jewelry, furniture. . . and then they have these books. but not just normal books-- really cool ones, like the ones you see when you walk by, but can't help but to turn back and skim through. so last week i went into the urban on 72nd and i walked by this book with a bright ass cover that said MIA. i opened it and ended up looking through the entire thing. it's basically this really cool compilation of album artwork from her three albums, "Arular", "Kala" and "Maya". i was really impressed, her work has a reoccurring theme of patterns, bright colors, random shapes and sketches, but there's also lots of film photography and some song lyrics. i know MIA's an artist in the musical sense but i didn't know she fucked with Photoshop and printmaking too. one of the reasons i really like her is because you can see so clearly how her creativity shines through in her work . yeah she probably has a stylist and a manager or publicist that make her look good, but she still retains her own self image . this book is just very raw and makes her more than just another new age rapper but really portrays her as a super creative individual, which i personally think musicians tend to have trouble with these days. and watch the video belowwwww, it's awesome.

what to do when u get bored with being on covers of vogue

i have this list of celebrities that can basically do no wrong in my eyes, kate moss is one of them. she's a pretty recent member to that group of people, but she's rising up the rankings pretty quickly. when i was at barnes and noble last saturday (for literally 12 hours might I add), I peeped one of her new books and it just made me want to go find and photograph her. unfortunately i know this isn't going to happen, at least not any time soon. so the book is basically a compilation of lots and lots of photos from some of her work, it was published with 8 different covers (as seen below) in early November. anyway, I skimmed through it and flipped to random pages and sections, but I'm definitely going to go back and really check it out cause reading and looking at stuff like this is just inspiring to me, anyway here are some of my favorite photozz .

you can get me the book for christmas if you want
