SSION (SHUN)

some weird music i discovered yesterday.
basically a 21st century, electronically educated, hipster version of prince... minus the abundance of sex appeal. interesting shit. i also read that he directs and develops the concept for a lot of his videos, which is really cool cause they're all so different and that says a lot since he's from Kansas City o.O i'm still trying to figure out how he finds people that are willing to be in these videos...

Matthew Logos by Idris + Tony

i like the concept, and he's cute.

*cries*

i just want to apologize to my inner hippie for letting this happen and being so foolish as to forget to take this CD out of the front of my bag. like sometimes bad things happen to good people and i guess this is one of those times. can't lie though, it made for an ill instagram photo... but seriously, i should've taken it out of my computer and put it back in the case. fuck laziness. @phuckflo.

i like art because you don't necessarily have to get it to appreciate it. in fact one could say that you're not supposed to "get it", you're just supposed to observe and digest. on that note, meet my current obsession JOHN BALDESSARI. i like his stuff, i don't get all of it, but i like it. there's something about the merging of these colors and photographs that give off an obscurity that feels uneasy yet comfortable. he proves that you don't need to see some of the most important aspects of a photograph to appreciate the beauty of it; he does this by manipulating the photos themselves. a primary role of photography is to depict real life, and unlike other forms of art (i.e. drawing and painting, sculpture, etc.) you're not "creating" in the same manner... so much as capturing what's already there. however Baldessari finds a clever way to simultaneously do both. since he chooses to omit what might be important to a photograph (things that give context/meaning) and insert these bright colors instead... it leaves the viewer intrigued yet satisfied with what they see. the composition of the final piece does not really even leave me curious in knowing what might've been there in the first place. scroll on.

Some of his other styles of work.

that's all folks.

throwback wendy film (9th or 10th grade)

last week i rediscovered old negatives of my sister from a project i did in photo and decided to print them. haven't done much close up portraiture in a while and am really into street photography now... but printing these pictures of Wendy made me want to return to shooting stuff like this. you can check out the rest of the film i printed on my TUMBLR.
